Frederik Du Chau (Author - Director)

Frederik Du Chau has studied film at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Belgium from 1984 to 1988. Parallel to his studies until his graduation, he worked as a camera assistant for several news agencies in Europe. He became host and producer for television productions and commercials in Europe. In 1989 his short film "The Mystery of the Lamb" was selected by Los Angeles Animation Celebration film festival, which took him to visit the United States to pursue his career. He joined as an animator at Baer Animation Studio in Los Angeles and worked on numerous commercials combining live action and animation. He then codirected the short film mixing live action and animation with Sony Wonder and Hoyt Yeatman of Dreamquest, and directed the animation of the film "The Little Dinosaur: The miraculous spring". After some professional time as storyboard artist for animation legend Chuck Jones, he directed the animated feature ”Quest for Camelot". The film won the Vision Award for Best Picture in 1999. He also directed a pilot presentation for Spirit Dance Entertainment, Forest Whitaker’s company, titled "Stripped," for which he created a new way to transform live action into animation in real time. In 2000, Frederik Du Chau and Kirk DeMicco wrote ”Hong Kong Phooney", a comedy in action shooting a dog practicing kung fu, according to the Hanna Barbera cartoon "Hong Kong Fou Fou". This project was sold to Alcon Entertainment. Also with Kirk DeMicco, Du Chau wrote ”Sky Boys” in 2002, a drama about two Irish brothers, who fall in love with the same woman while building the Empire State Building.
